Sudipta offers a variety of professional development workshops for educators.
|
Here is a selection of the professional development workshops offered by Sudipta:
WORDS AND PICTURES: TEACHING NARRATIVE WRITING THROUGH THE PICTURE BOOK Though it appears short and simple, the picture book is an ideal form to perfect the craft of narrative writing. A picture book project can unlock your students' creativity while teaching the fundamentals of good writing that can be applied in other areas of life.
BOOKS ALIVE!: CREATING READER’S THEATER FOR EARLY ELEMENTARY STUDENTS
For the young picture book audience, reading a book can be multi-sensory experience. They listen to the words and look at the pictures while using their considerable imaginations to bring the story to life. Reader’s theater can substantially enhance their experience by making the reader an actor in the story. This workshop discusses effective ways to create reader’s theater scripts for pre-school and early elementary audiences. We will discuss how to select appropriate books for reader’s theater, steps to quickly and easily create the scripts, and techniques to involve the students on several different levels.
ILLUSTRATED HISTORY: USING PICTURE BOOK BIOGAPHIES IN THE CLASSROOM A constant challenge for teachers is to find new ways to engage students, especially reluctant readers, in history and social studies lessons. Incorporating picture book biographies into the classroom experience can offer a fresh viewpoint to important historical events. By viewing history through the eyes of lesser known participants, students can get a new perspective that will significantly heighten interest. This workshop discusses the use of available picture book biographies in elementary lessons for all ages, and outlines a picture book biography project that the class can undertake as a group or individually that can remove the reluctance toward the subject.
